Vose Consulting provides expert witness services and litigation support. Our acknowledged expertise and years of experience in risk analysis, combined with our consultancy neutrality, provide us with practical understanding, substantial credibility and the ability to explain complex risk analysis in simple terms, to a jury or judge. We are prepared to testify, research, organize teams of experts, provide document production and define litigation strategy.
Our founder, David Vose, has provided expert witness services for legal disputes in the courts of Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and the World Trade Organisation. Dispute areas have ranged from corporate revenue insurance to antimicrobial resistance and trade restrictions. References can be made available on request. Lead by Mr Vose, our consulting team can offer the following services in legal cases:
- Audit risk analysis models and reports
- Produce complementary risk analyses
- Provide independent research
- Provide opinion on current and past best practices
- Help in the preparation of opening submissions, responses and replies
- Assist counsel in preparing questions for witnesses
- Provide written and verbal testimony.
In our experience, the legal profession is often poorly served by risk analysis experts. We believe the critical elements to providing the highest quality expert witness service in risk analysis are:
- Learn the key legal issues and focus on providing advice that most effectively addresses them
- Build a trusting and open relationship with the legal team and their experts
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Distil and present arguments that can be understandable by lawyers and judges by keeping mathematics and complex ideas to a minimum
- Be extremely thorough in our work, supported by excellent organisation and documentation
- Prepare material as early as possible and have it checked internally
- Be prepared to work long hours particularly towards submission deadlines
- Maintain professional integrity
- Provide accurate information at all times, particularly in the referencing of others’ work
- Ensure that statements are internally consistent and can be supported by facts wherever possible
- Adhere to the judges’ instructions and focus on providing them with clear and pertinent responses. Avoid being evasive. Avoid trying to second-guess the purpose behind questions in a cross-examination.

At Vose Consulting we believe in partnering relationships with our clients: that is, we strive to structure our clients' use of our time to maximize their benefit. To that end we prefer to work, wherever possible, alongside the client, demonstrating and teaching as we go the methods we use and sharing as much of the work as possible with the clients' personnel. This maximizes the transfer of knowledge, so that the client is better able to understand our work, and more capable of doing future projects by themselves. We aim for long-term relationships with our clients.

Vose Consulting successfully provided expert witness services or served as a key risk adviser at two WTO court cases in an international dispute and in a US federal court case between the US government and an industry opponent. We greatly value our reputation for providing an honest and unbiased opinion. Indeed, the Australian government employed Mr Vose's services in a recent hearing despite having lost a WTO court case some years ago to Canada where Mr. Vose was acting for the Canadian government.

"BAE Systems employed David Vose of Vose Consulting to act as an expert witness on a very complex dispute concerning a financial model. Mr Vose helped us respond to allegations being made against the financial model. He negotiated a joint statement with the plaintiff's expert witness knowing the position we wished to achieve.
We were extremely pleased with his contribution and would recommend him without question for this role."
