Experience
Michael Ruston is a risk analysis consultant at Vose Consulting with a focus on quantitative finance, insurance, and time-series forecasting.
Michael’s interests include mathematics- specifically probability and statistics, economics, and finance. His undergraduate honors thesis in economics studied the predictors of professor teaching effectiveness, as rated by students. As a graduate student, he also studied the effectiveness of small group review sessions conducted prior to exams on the learning outcomes of students in first semester calculus.
Michael has also completed a certificate in actuarial studies offered by the University of Colorado. He passed the first two actuarial exams covering probability theory (Exam P) and financial mathematics (Exam FM).
He placed first among all University of Colorado students in the Putnam undergraduate mathematics competition in 2005. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Teaching is another of Michael’s pursuits. He spent time working in a drop-in tutor lab covering all undergraduate economics courses offered at his university. He also worked as a tutor for the Princeton Review. While a graduate student, he was a grader and teaching assistant for calculus classes and a mathematical statistics course.
